Bipolar was written from scraps of test code, in particular a fire routine based on a BASIC example given to T.M.R by Two9A on IRC and an unrolled plasma. Both effects work simultaneously and the effect is refreshed once every third frame - which is about as fast as the routines can get considering how much work they're doing! Trivia: the original code took just four hours to write from existing source, the hard work of properly unrolling the loops to optimise the effects down took much longer!
